4th November 2011, London, UK – Samsung today announced the first smartphone to feature Android™ 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and a 4.65″ HD Super AMOLED display, the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, will be available in the UK from Thursday 17th November.

The Galaxy Nexus™ is the first smartphone to feature a 4.65’’ HD Super AMOLED display with a market-leading resolution of 720p (1280×720), ensuring vivid colours and excellent picture clarity. The Galaxy Nexus also comes with a 5 megapixel camera and new rounded design that measures just 8.94mm thick and features a minimal 4.29mm screen bezel.

The Galaxy Nexus features the latest version of the Android platform, 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich), which brings an entirely new look and feel to Android. It also comes with integrated Google+™, allowing you to ‘hang out’ with friends and talk over Google+ Messenger. Google™’s services are connected to the cloud, keeping your email, contacts, and other data synced across your devices.

The latest handset from Samsung and Google is designed to provide a “pure Google” experience and users will be the first to receive software upgrades as they become available. It also features a number of Google Mobile services, including: Android Market™, Gmail™, Google Maps™ 5.11 with 3D maps and turn-by-turn navigation, Google Earth™, Movie Studio, YouTube™, syncing with Google Calendar™ and a redesigned Google+ app.

Simon Stanford, Head of Mobile, Samsung UK and Ireland said: “The level of interest and anticipation surrounding the release of the Galaxy Nexus has been fantastic. The collaboration with Google to launch the world’s first smartphone featuring Android Ice Cream Sandwich and a 4.65″ HD Super AMOLED display is evidence of Samsung’s continuing passion for the smartphone market and commitment to delivering innovative devices. Galaxy Nexus on Verizon Delayed Till After Black Friday

We’ve heard reports previously that the Samsung Galaxy Nexus would be released on November 10th. These reports seemed a little optimistic, after word came that Clove will be releasing the device November 17th. Now it seems that U.S. based customers will have to wait even longer – possibly until after Black Friday.

Droid-Life managed to pick up an advertising schedule for Verizon. According to the screenshot, the big advertising push for Samsung’s “Holiday Portfolio” (including the Galaxy Nexus) will begin immediately after Black Friday. This tends to indicate the smartphone will be released more than a week after it’s available in European stores.

Of course, it’s possible that Verizon will start selling the device (at least pre-orders) before Black Friday. This is just a preview of when the big marketing push will begin. But for those hungry Android users out there, it looks like your best bet of getting a Galaxy Nexus early would be to order online from Europe (such as from Clove in the U.K.)
