Galaxy Nexus Owner “Smoked By Windows Phone”?

Well here’s a curious tale for you. Galaxy Nexus owner Sahas Katta from Skatter Tech claims he was ripped of by a Microsoft Store employee, after entering the “Smoked by Windows Phone” competition.

The competition is pretty simple. Microsoft challenges you to perform a basic operation faster on your Android phone than their employee can managed on a Windows Phone. If you win, you get a $1000 laptop. If you lose, you get a chance to swap your phone for the Windows Phone.

But all is not as it seems. Apparently Sahas actually managed to load the weather on his phone faster than the Microsoft employee. His Galaxy Nexus was setup with no lock screen, and two weather widgets on his home screen. Turns out this is exactly what he needed to beat this particular challenge. Samsung Galaxy Nexus Available From Telstra [Australia]

For all you Aussies out there, today’s your lucky day! Telstra (the biggest Australian telco) have just put live a new product page for the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, and are accepting orders online.

Plans range from $59 per month to $129 per month, on a two year contract. Telstra claim if you buy the phone before December 16th, you’ll get guaranteed delivery by Christmas.

Samsung Officially Confirms Launch Date

Android 4.0 Smartphone

Earlier this month, Clove confirmed that the Samsung Galaxy Nexus would be available from the 17th of November. Now we’ve received official word from Samsung that this is indeed the case. The Galaxy Nexus will be launching in the UK only on the 17th of November 2011. We’re yet to receive official launch dates for other countries.

Download the Android 4.0 SDK

For all you developers out there waiting to get started with Android 4.0, I’ve got some good news. The Android 4.0 “Ice Cream Sandwich” SDK is available right now. You can download it from http://developer.android.com/.

Android Developers

Android 4.0 introduces many new features for developers, including Android Beam, a way to transfer data between devices using NFC. If you’re interested in Android development at all, I’d recommend you download the SDK and try out the emulator. Let me know what you think!

Galaxy Nexus Official Announcement

Today, Samsung and Google officially announced the Galaxy Nexus smartphone. The event was broadcast live on YouTube from Hong Kong.

Galaxy Nexus is the first smartphone to run Android 4.0, codenamed “Ice Cream Sandwich”. This is a major leap forward for Android, as it unifies the smartphone and tablet development lines, to form a single codebase for devices going forward. It’s a state-of-the-art mobile operating system, with plenty of goodies for regulars and power users alike.
